DESCRIPTION:Join us in person at The Royal Oak – Kent at Slater in Centretown for our monthly writing discussion! \nTo find us: from the front entrance\, walk past the entire bar\, and then make a slight right. We sit in the area at the back\, usually in the long booth-seating section along the windowed back wall. You can ask the staff; they’re familiar with us! \nPlease register via Eventbrite so we know how many people to expect. \nThis month’s discussion will be ✷Pacing✷ \nWe often hear about books having good pacing or bad pacing\, but what are the actual elements that produce a well paced piece of writing? How do we maintain reader interest throughout an entire book\, especially in an era of diminishing attention spans? \nWriters of all genres\, mediums\, and skill levels are most welcome at the table. Come join us for an hour or two! \nThere will be a Critique Info Session and Write-In afterwards at a nearby café\, so if you would like to join\, you are welcome to bring your writing implements with you and walk over with us after the discussion.

DESCRIPTION:Join us in person at Buzz & Perch in Centretown for a Critique Info Session and Write-In featuring 20 minute sprints!   \nIf you’re interested in participating in future Critique Sessions\, please come meet one of our organizers and some of your peers so that you can learn more about how we run the sessions and decide if they’re what you’re looking for. One of our organizers will be happy to answer any questions you might have. \nThe Write-In Session will be running at the same time and you’re welcome to join in\, regardless of whether you are also there to hear more about the critique group \nWe’ll be taking little breaks to chat about what we’re working on or workshop narrative tangles between each sprint. Bring a WIP or some ideas as well as your writing implement(s) of choice! Feel free to write\, edit\, or brainstorm. There is no pressure to produce anything during the 20 minute sprint sessions\, we just ask that you keep to yourself and not talk to your fellow writers during those focus periods. We recommend bringing music or noise-cancelling earbuds/headphones if you think it would help you focus! \nIf you’re using a laptop\, please try to come with it already charged as we won’t know ahead of time if we will have any power outlets available for our group to use. \nLook for a little Writers of Ottawa sign at a table if it’s your first time joining us. \nCan’t wait to write with you!
